What do you Support?

Meeting new people is half of the fun for us on the trip.  It seems one of the most common questions used as an ice breaker in conversation is:  "What do you do for a living?"  We've met a dental surgeon, a marketing professional, doctors, attorneys, pilots, a realtor,  teachers, a urologist, etc.  It seems in the United States we are defined by what we do which is sort of sad in a way.  There is so much more to life than what you do to make a living.

What the world would look like if folks asked:  "What do you support" instead of "What do you do"?  A question often pondered by Hilary, it came up again a few nights ago at docktails when we met the most interesting and inspirational man, Richard.  http://www.richardonabike.com/

Richard is from Bristol, UK and is cycling, solo and unassisted, from Washington state to Key West, Florida.  That is 5,000 miles on a bike!!!!  Why is he doing it?  To support something called:  Shelter Box.

Shelter Box - a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing
shelter, warmth and dignity to survivors of  a disaster.

Contents of a Shelter Box

ShelterBox USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing shelter, warmth, and dignity to survivors of disasters worldwide.  Richard's goal is to purchase 10 ShelterBoxes.  He is close to reaching his goal, but is not quite there yet which is why we wanted to share his story on our blog and hopefully help him reach his goal.  Click on the links above to learn more about Richard's trip and to support his very worthy cause.  If ShelterBox doesn't touch your heart, something else probably does.

Take a few minutes today and ask yourself:  What do you support?
